I totally get that some people don't get us.
I really really do.
People don't understand the need for a batting cage. And the hundreds of dollars spent on equipment. And the endless hours that are sacrificed at a ballpark. They don't understand how we can call concession stand nachos "dinner." And the inconveniences in schedules. And the sacrifices made on almost every level.
I think to get IT, you have to get BASEBALL.
Or maybe you just have to have one of these:
And then you, too, will turn your life upside-down. Because the joy in those eyes....it's just worth it.

Sawyer's All-Star team is in the throws of District Tournament. We're fighting our way to the Championship game, so that we can head to the State Tournament as champions.
So far.....Undefeated!!!
But at the end of the day, it really doesn't matter if we win or lose. It's the love of the game.
And for that...we'll do it all over again. A million times over.

I'm actually glad that you live this every day. It's really cool to me because I know that I am going to have to do it someday too. And I NEVER would have wanted it. But if our babies will be anything like their Daddy was I will live for baseball as well. I DONT get the $300 baseball gloves. I don't get the schedules. And I like knowing that I don't have to...yet. But you have to stick around to talk me through it!!!! You know...in 10 years or so...
enjoy this time...it is so precious! And congrats to Sawyers All Star team!!
I've got one, so I get it :D
Enjoy the rest of your season!
Winning isn't everything - but it sure feels better than losing!!
Play fair, play safe - have fun!
Love the little red headed slugger!
Hope to see him play in the state championship.
Love ya!
I don't "get" it yet, but I probably will someday! (My boy is 3.)
By the way, I love reading your blog, and I've given you a blog award! www.darowefamily.blogspot.com
Have a great day!
How could anyone say no to that face? Congrats, team!
We don't do ball, but we are getting ready to enter the world of marching band. I did it in high school so I understand the hours that will be spent on a field, the saturdays that will be spent on a bus traveling to 2 contests in 2 different cities, the money spent on camps/lessons/shoes/clothing. My in-laws already don't get it. They can't understand why he won't be able to miss 'just one' contest to go to a family reunion. Hmm...maybe because it will be regional and you just can't not have someone playing that part? Many people just don't understand when you devote yourself to an activity like this but it teaches a child so much about dedication and teamwork. Priceless lessons.
So I have accidently stumbled upon your blog and absolutely love it!! I too, am a mom of 3 boys, one of which plays baseball. So needless to say.... I get it!!! I actually get all of what you talk about and love reading what you write! Thx for blogging!!
