Dollar Tree Shopping Extravaganza

Tonight was our annual trip to the Dollar Tree.

That makes it sound like we only go there once a year...actually we frequent the treasure-trove quite often, but tonight was the annual "shop-for-each-other" trip.

A few years ago, Kirk and I decided that the Dollar Tree was an amazing deal when it came to the boys shopping for us and each other for Christmas. They have always wanted to get in on the gift giving, but it was exhausting walking the aisles at WalMart burdened by a budget and it just ended up in all kinds of frustration (mostly Kirk and I!). We got tired to shelling out $20 each for presents for 2 parents and 2 brothers, only to leave $60 poorer and with sacks full of junk.

Dollar Tree? Heaven. They can pick what they want and I'm only out $12....can't beat that.

Kirk met us after he got off work and we began our shopping spree. We split up and helped each of the boys shop for their brothers, then dished out some cash and let the boys loose to shop for us. Fun times. I didn't see any of my presents, but I did see Tate sporting around a hammer...lucky Kirk!

Let's see....my FAVORITE gift of the past.....

....when Sawyer was about 4 and picked out a Catholic Mother Mary frosted glass figurine. Amazing.

Over the Christmases, I've received lotion, soap, candles, figurines, and even a trash can!

My favorite gift of Kirk's.....the year he got the nutcracker from Keaton! That still cracks me up. (We still have it and put it out every year!) He did get a turkey baster last year....that was a pretty good present, too!

This is one of my favorite family Christmas traditions. The boys get so excited to shop for us and it is a lot of fun to see what they come up with. They can hardly wait to have us open their presents....they are so proud of them!

Such fun times!

This was Will's favorite joke when he was in 1st grade...

Q: What does NO boy want for Christmas?
A: A Nutcracker

Of course, if you decide to repeat that to your boys, be prepared for hilarious squeals and hearing it repeated 999 times before next Christmas when the count starts all over again. (smile) (you're so welcome)

LOVE the Dollar Tree idea...must remember that for next year.

One of the best memories I have of my deceased grandmother is every year she would load us up and take us to Dollar General to buy gifts for our parents and other family members.

She would give us $10 each and let us pick anything we wanted.

$10 was a big sacrifice to her but we always had gifts picked out by us to give Mom and Dad and that made us feel so special.

A nutcracker and a turkey baster - that cracked me up!

I think someone is hungry:).

Also...I'll let you in on my secret for the stockings you loved...they came from Target! $12.99 each. :o)

You want me to check my local Target and see if they have the letters you would need for your boys? The pickings might be slim now but I would be happy to check.

What a great idea! I love, love, love the Dollar Tree Store. It's can be addictive LOL! We are really trying to teach the boys the real meaning of Christmas, Christ Birth. It is hard sometime because of all the materialism around us. Our goal is for them to give to others and not want the latest greatest gadget!
I am so excited about my sons deer. Now there is the pressure for my middle son to shoot one. I think your husband taking your boys to hunt is awesome! What great quality time for them. Hope you have a blessed weekend!
Merry Christmas,

We do that too! My girls always look forward to it. Wes and I are not even allowed into the store...scary! I laughed out loud that you got a trashcan...Wes has gotten one too not once but TWICE. I think it's because he's extra messy.

We have been doing this with Drew for the past couple of years. I love to see what he picks out for everyone! He really puts some thought in to it which I think is so neat! The first year he got several people toothbrushes...I hope no one was offended! HA!! You'll have to let us know what you get this year!!
